“Warming Up For The Winter” First Choice by Select Health Hosts Local Event to Help Families Stay Warm and Healthy

As colder weather approaches, First Choice by Select Health of South Carolina is hosting a free “Warming Up for Winter” event this weekend to help Beaufort families prepare for the season. The event will take place Saturday, November 22, from 10AM–1PM at the Burton Wells Recreation Center (1 Middleton Recreation Dr., Beaufort).

Select Health of South Carolina’s First Choice health plan is helping residents prepare for the winter season by giving away free cold-weather clothing while supplies last. Adults can also receive their flu shot with a valid photo ID and a health insurance card. Community resources that support family health and well-being will be available. Select Health representatives will be on site to share information about additional member benefits, as well as bilingual staff and interpreters to assist Spanish-speaking families. This event will also have light refreshments and children’s activities to enjoy.

Select Health’s goal is to help community members stay warm, healthy, and protected this winter. Generous winter clothing donations from local businesses and faith organizations will help families face the cold with confidence, and getting an annual flu shot remains one of the best ways to prevent illness. Both the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend flu vaccination for everyone six months and older, especially for those at higher risk due to their age or health status.

Select Health of South Carolina, part of the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, contracts with the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) to offer First Choice, the state’s oldest and largest Medicaid managed care health plan, in all 46 counties statewide.
