Dear Beaufort Insiders,
The City of Beaufort has informed Beaufort Insider they will no longer be answering any questions we send to them. Here are the city’s Communications Manager Kathleen Williams’ exact words, “Since you have not engaged in good faith with us, we will not be answering your questions going forward.” That was the response to questions sent on Thursday, September 19 about the pilings that were installed this week next to the Waterfront Park. Before that email, the last time Beaufort Insider sent questions to the city was on August 15.
Perhaps not coincidentally, this icing out occurred on the same day the city sent Beaufort Insider a large amount of documents in response to two FOIA requests. These documents will be at the center of multiple articles that are going to put a lot of the city’s practices into question. But bad faith? Not sure how they came to that conclusion.
One of Beaufort Insider’s loyal subscribers said this when told about the city’s response: “But you’re acting in good faith with the community!”
Beaufort Insider will continue to send questions to the City of Beaufort when we want to have their side of the story. Guess they’ll have a decision to make each time they get an email from us.
